Dragon Guitar Body by jendawn77 Dragon Guitar Body by jendawn77
This was my first guitar body to carve. What better subject than a dragon. I used a Dremel to carve the wood. Then I used wood stain and inks for color.

Really great job! How did approach the project? Did you sketch it on the body first or do it free hand? Did you use any reference photos or just your imagination? I only ask because I am thinking of doing something similar myself.

I know this is seriously delayed, I haven't been on DA in forever. First off, thank you. I sketched it on the body first. I did use some references to get the basic dragon elements. I love working on guitars, a really fun break from my graphic design profession.
And BTW I love your current Van Gogh project, I've thought about doing inlays and create a mosaic. Maybe one day. I can't wait to see your finished guitar!

Totally is a real guitar. These aren't just art, they are made to be played. This particular one is not in my possession anymore but I'm wanting to carve another dragon.

I meant to write that to someone else actually ^^; somebody drew a girl playing a bat shaped hollowbody guitar.

But that dragon guitar is awesome. Just wondering do you have a pic of that guitar completed? Like with the neck, strings and everything on it?

Dude, I got a question.

How do you drill a hole for the wires between the pickup pots?

Sorry for the late response. Haven't been on here in a while.
That is a great question, but unfortunately I don't know the answer. Because I don't want mess with the exact placement of components I order the bodies pre-routed. Plus it makes it alot easier to design with those cavities already in place. I will have to ask my supplier how he drills those holes.

I want to build my own guitars but I don't know if I should get pre-routed ones or route the holes myself. Is it considered cheating if I do get pre-routed bodies? Does it take away from the creative process at all? Do you feel whole knowing that the bodies were pre-routed?

Thanks.

LOL. Awesome question. I personally don't consider it cheating. It was nice not to have to worry myself with the cavity routing and just focus on the overall design. I don't feel like I missed out on part of the process or anything. Plus I wanted those to be routed precise and wasn't sure I could do that on my own. I guess it's whatever works for each artist. You should definitely give it a shot, lots of fun! Good luck to ya!
